…this is the Agent Orange of this occupation. This weapon has no purpose in Iraq granted this was during the initial invasion. So I, maybe, can understand its deployment. But, let’s be clear here depleted uranium is an anti-armor weapon… the Iraqis do not have armor. They don’t have tanks. They don’t have bombers. Why are we using this? And again I urge you to do the research yourselves. I can quickly say that we’re using this because it’s a way to get rid of atomic waste. We do not know what to do with that.

We’re poisoning our soldiers, we are poisoning the people of Iraq, but make no mistake we are poisoning the people of the world. I can test every single person in this room and I can find depleted uranium in your hair.

The VA has continually denied my request to be tested for depleted uranium. This letter clearly shows that they’re saying a test doesn’t even exist. And I will say for the record, a test does exist, it’s the wrong test. It’s the urinalysis that’s used to detect exposure, immediate exposure. The problem with depleted uranium is that these particles dig deep within your body, and you will not find them in your urine after a couple days. You need a very expensive test… one the VA us certainly not willing to pay for. But I would also like to point out that the VA does recognize the danger of depleted uranium, while they might not want to test for it, or talk about it, or give us any briefings on it.

That round on impact aerosols and vaporizes and these particles go up in the air, and that’s why I was saying I can test every single one of you and find it in your hair. These particles blow up into the atmosphere and are disseminated all around the entire globe. They have found depleted uranium on the skin of NASA vehicles in space. We are changing the entire genome of our planet: human beings, cats and dogs, plants. We are changing the genetic makeup of our planet by using these munitions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Unfortunately, the link comes up with this Video is No Longer Available. I do know that one Marine who testified with the IVAW gave false testimony. He claimed that a DU-tipped Hellfire missile had destroyed an American tank right after it crossed the Iraq border. That was categorically false since there is no such munition. There was an incident where a Hellfire missile hit an M1A1 Abrams Tank in the Gulf War in 1991 where the resultant fire and explosion ignited the propellant charge on the tank’s on board DU munitions and they “cooked off”. This Marine, though was not there in 1991 – he is too young to have been there in 1991 and he made the claim as it having happened in 2003. I would like to hear this video (if anyone has an MP3, please, send me a file at DUStory-owner@yahoogroups.com ) – yes, I am a very active researcher of the anti-DU crusaders – most of whom, I have found, like this Marine have a very hard time telling the truth. They sure do stir up people who have genuine concerns, but those people really ought to verify what these people spew out with legitimate sources – start with a non-political science teacher.

    There are a number of false statements on this Snowshoe Films film (they also do Rokke’s lies and are probably pushing Private Howard as the new Rokke)

    When he says that “they have found depleted uranium on NASA vehicles in space”, who is “they” and how did this “they” make that determination. Any sane person would probably decide that Howard either has lost his marbles or is conning them when they hear this. Another one of his cons is telling everyone in the audience that he can find depleted uranium in their hair. Uranium is not found in hair. It concentrates in the kidneys. The only accurate portions of this video are the brief, though sarcastic reading of the VA DU Questionaire and the diagrams of the 120mm sabot round for the main tank gun. The rest is pure fiction, bad science fiction.

    Roger, are you telling us that DU is not a hazardous radioactive waste? An 8th grade chemistry class will teach you that uranium hexafluoride (DU) is toxic and highly destructive to the endocrine system especially.

    There IS a market for this type of atomic waste, and as long as there’s a market for it, it will be commercially exploited…

    Whoever you are, you are mixing apples with kumquats. DUF6 (or UF6, the hexaflouride salt variant of uranium, is very toxic, but not found on the battlefield). Uranium oxide is a naturally occuring compound that is found all over the world, not because of the use of DU or any post-atomic energy reason, but because it is a common mineral and every living thing ingests or inhales an extremely minute amount of it every day. Scientists used U-238 to determine the age of 1000 year old ice deep in the Antarctic ice cap and they found that the quantities of U-238 were measurable in femtograms (quadrillionth of a gram, an extremely small, nearly immeasurable quantity). Given the newspaper coverage given to testing of NY National Guardsmen, similar to Matt Howard, I expect that Howard’s test results are also in femtograms (misspelled by Juan Gonzales in his NY Daily News article as fentogram) and that they really record his natural exposure to uranium over his lifetime. His claims in this video are not supportable by any evidence, nor has he offered any. He apparently likes the limelight and thinks that he is the new Doug Rokke; both he and Rokke were perepherial players in the war and both relish being the center of attention. Both he and Rokke connected with supposed peace groups (though, I am really surprised that Kelly Dougherty and the IVAW did not carefull vet every one of their “Winter Soldiers” – they should understand that you do not fight lies with more and bigger lies and Matt Howard is in that category.

    Far as your UN resolution – it is a debate society that was influenced by activists and ignored its own scientific information (the UN Environment Programme was not consulted prior to this vote).

    Now, why don’t you actually go talk to a science teacher instead of pretending like you know what you are talking about because you don’t.

    PS, I note that Howard claims to have been a Corporal, but he certainly does not behave like a Corporal of Marines and thus I will continue to call him Private Howard. Meanwhile, I sent off a request for his military records and will share the response with this forum when I get it.

    The ’depleted’ uranium that America has thrown in large quantities into the living spaces of its enemy is essentially spent nuclear reactor fuel. It’s basically uranium. At high impact speeds uranium penetrates steel and concrete like a knife cutting through butter. In the process it heats up, becomes flammable, and explodes with an intense heat (5,000-10,000 decrees C.) and evaporates into tiny particles that are radioactive and are dispersed through the air. The nano-sized particles are uniquely destructive to people as the human body has no effective defenses to particles of that small size (as small as 1/10,000th the size of a blood cell). The alpha-radiating particles get into any place in the body and cause a wide range of damage creating upwards to 100 different types of diseases, including genetic defects. DU warfare is a new type of nuclear war with delayed effects unfolding up to half a decade in the future.

    DU is also used, because the stuff is cheap, since it became considered a waste product. The nuclear fuel cycle wasn’t designed that way. What is now a waste product would have been a resource for the fast flux breeder reactor in the original design, creating energy and new fuel at the same time. The fast flux program was shut down most likely, because it would have created an energy-rich economic renaissance that the imperial neo-feudalist clique, which depends on poverty, would not have survived. It was also likely for this reason that the world’s nuclear fusion power development has been put on the slow burner, otherwise nuclear fusion-power might have replaced nuclear fission-power by now. The world certainly wouldn’t have been awash with cheap DU waste products for the production of cheap and horrendously dirty bombs.

    The end result is that the world is now starving itself while it is building bombs with waste products that shouldn’t have been created in the first place. Since 2002 the DU pollution of the Earth’s atmosphere, and thereby near-space, has been significantly increased . The Tora Bora bombing in Afghanistan added 2.5 times as much as the 1991 dessert war in nano-sized uranium pollution to the atmosphere, and five times as much was added again with the “Shock and Awe” bombing that followed in 2003 and the horror show that came after it. The Korea Times reported on Dec. 23, 2005, that the U.S. military has 2.7 million depleted uranium bombs pre-positioned in South Korea. If the Korean report is true, and if a similar stockpile has has been pre-positioned for the bombing of Iran, the DU pollution of the Earth’s atmosphere, and thereby near space, might become increased 50-fold when the next round of America’s pre-emptive wars is being launched. The horrors that result from that increase cannot even be predicted.
    No greater pollution of the environment of the entire Earth exists or is possible than that caused by the use of depleted uranium weapons.

The inevitable event will be one or many nuclear weapons fired against the United States in the very near future.     According an AP article, “The Iranian parliament said the US Army and the CIA were terrorists because of the atomic bombing of Japan; the use of depleted uranium munitions in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq; support of the killings of Palestinians by Israel; the bombing and killing Iraqi civilians and the torture of imprisoned terror suspects.” A statement signed by the 215 members who voted for the resolution reads, “The aggressor U.S. Army and the Central Intelligence Agency are terrorists and also nurture terror.

    Depleted Uranium will serve the purpose of turning the world community against the US in future world confict certainly after the coming US-Iran war. In light of the use of DU in the Middle East and Afganistan, the world community will destroy the United States and Israel. This is ultimately the plan that will serve the interests of the One World Government and New World Order.

    Although DU has about 60% of the radioactivity of the natural uranium for an equal mass of substance (Cantaluppi and Degeto, 2000), elevated uranium activity concentrations have been observed in most of the surface soil samples and all of the biological samples collected in Kosovo. In some soils, elevations of even seven thousand times higher than the background uranium level have been observed.

    The depleted uranium (DU) is spent nuclear reactor fuel that becomes vaporized in the explosions of the DU weapons into nanometre-sized particles, half of which are smaller than the wavelengths of light. The minuscule particles become airborne like a gas and are distributed around the world in the global air-currents, while they remain permanently radioactive. The resulting radioactive pollution of the global environment has the potential to turn the Earth into death trap. The DU particles kill indiscriminately, without warning, and in most cases slowly over the span of years and decades by way of illnesses that are hard to heal, like cancers, diabetes, and a long list of illnesses that by circumstantial evidence have been linked with DU poisoning.

    Depleted Uranium kinetic energy penetrators are NOT made out of spent reactor fuel. The person who posts as Andrew Jackson is either very naive or just a flat out liar, what he is not is truthful. He knows nothing about depleted uranium. DU is basically uranium (U-238) – this is the most common naturally occuring radioactive element on earth – every human being on earth has millions of atoms of uranium-238 in their body and takes a few thousand atoms of U-238 into their body every day of their life. DU has not killed, let alone indiscrimately. The only ones who have been killed by DU were in a targetted tank and either hit by the DU penetrator itself or killed by the explosion of the target tank’s on-board ammunition and fuel supplies. That explosion is what destroys an enemy tank because DU itself does not explode, it just becomes extremely hot when the kinetic energy turns to heat when the extremely fast moving penetrator comes to a momentary stop when it hits the target’s armor plate. PS – Jackson, there was no DU used in the Tora Bora bombing – there is no DU used in any bomb and penetrators are just basically small diameter long high strength metal rods. Suggest that you learn some real science instead of just regurgitating science fiction from activist websites.     The former British Minister of State for the Envionment, Michael Meacher, said in an interview that he was simply shocked to learn that waste from British nuclar power plants was used for the production of depleated uranium weapons that were used in the former Yugoslavia, during the first Gulf War in Lebanon now again in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Everyone who opposes DU is a liar, only dear old Roger Boy is telling the truth. There are hundreds of posts like this all over the web, Roger Helbig the truthful soul, with his non-toxic chemiclly Uranium, his non-radiological Uranium. Roger works for the Department of Energy and is affiliated with the Pentagon. They don’t want new soldiers refusing to use DU in the field so they spin these lies. DU armaments contain: U238 with Americium, Neptunium, Plutonium, U234, U 235 and U 236, all of which will make your kids grow two heads.
