…Protection Act. Beyond all the legal jargon that was in the bill to confuse you, there’s a little thing called the plant protection act which is outlined in a very broad manner and could easily be interpreted and enforced as such. Whoever wants to grow a genetically modified plant in the United States, but it was outlawed because it was found to be harmful to be harmful to the environment and human health, all they have to do is contact the Secretary of Agriculture and they will be immediately issued a permit to grow these plants – which would essentially be impossible to stop GMO plants from being grown in the United States, regardless of any laws or rulings to outlaw them.

Now how might this relate to the government? Well beyond President Obama signing and endorsing this bill, the Obama Administration has had a long and profitable relationship with the Monsanto Corporation, beyond appointing Michael R. Taylor, the former Vice President of Public Policy for Monsanto, as the Deputy Commissioner for Foods and Veterinary Medicine, and appointing Roger Beachy to a high position in the USDA. And also appointing former Monsanto lobbyist Islam Siddiqui as United States Agriculture Trade Representative.

Why blow up a fertilizer plant in the middle of nowhere? Makes no sense, right? Well actually is does considering that the West Fertilizer plant in Waco Texas was becoming a big issue for the Monsanto Corporation.

This isn’t science fiction. There are currently hundreds if not thousands of test plot of GE trees already being grown in the open around the world. My name is David Suzuki. I am by training and profession a geneticist. And for 25 years I had an active career in science, once having the largest genetics lab in Canada. I’m narrating this film because I’m concerned about the unseemly haste with which my colleagues and my peer groups seem to be ready to rush in and begin to apply ideas in this revolutionary area to apply ideas that I think are far too early to expose people either in our drugs, our foods, or out in open fields.

Large paper, agriculture, and timber corporations are pouring vast sums of money into genetically engineering trees because they believe they will be more efficient and profitable. They hope to engineer traits so that trees kill insects; trees resist toxic herbicides. Trees will have reduced lignin, the long fiber that gives rigidity to the tree and makes it difficult to manufacture paper; trees that are sterile producing no seeds, nuts, pollen, nectar, or fruit. The insertion into the cells of trees of the gene of a naturally occurring bacterium, bacillus thuringiensis, that produces BT toxin that kills insects, would cause every leaf, flower, fruit or grain of pollen of the tree to produce the insecticide. Advocates claim that this would decrease the need for applied chemical pesticides, because pests would be exterminated by eating the trees. But geneticists know from experience that using an insecticide in this fashion selects resistant insects putting the industry on a treadmill of requiring an endless string of different, often more toxic pesticide. The pesticide can’t be washed off, because it’s in every cell of the genetically engineered plant or tree. Because of this there is no specific target, and no real limit to what or who can be harmed.
Already crops genetically engineered to produce BT toxin, have unintentionally resulted in the evolution of BT resistant pests. The emergence of these superbugs have resulted in the increased use of even more toxic pesticides to try to control them.

Furthermore BT toxin is being exuded by the root systems of corn and as we will see, trees. And what this means is that that BT toxin is entering the soil system via the roots of the organism containing the toxins. Now the bacteria in the soil system is actually picking up the toxin and transferring it throughout soil bacteria in an entire ecosystem. And this BT toxin is now being expressed or produced and emitted through this bacteria in unprecedented and very unnatural amounts through soil systems. We’re also seeing evidence of this BT toxin moving through soil systems and being emitted into ground water and into surface water as well. And we’re finding in areas where BT toxins and corn are grown in high concentrations, we’re finding abnormally high amounts of BT toxin, some 3, 4, and 5 times the amount that should be in water systems.

We know that the BT toxin is leeched into the root system and we know that it alters the composition of the microbial community in the soil.

Growing evidence suggests that BT crops can induce allergies and respiratory illnesses in human beings. In a recent study, Terje Traavik, Director of the Norwegian Institute for Genecology, found evidence of diseases triggered by immune reaction to BT toxin in Philippino farm workers living in a field of genetically engineered BT producing corn. Because tree pollen can travel for hundreds of miles, genetically engineered trees could have a widespread impact on human health.

The spread of genetic materials has legal implications for land owners and for public land. Recent legal cases suggests that contaminated trees will become the property of the corporations that patented their genetically engineered genes regardless of whether those trees are on public or private land.

There is a spiderweb of roads and train tracks all around the country moving corn from where it’s being grown to these CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations). Cows are not designed by evolution to eat corn. They are designed by evolution to eat grass. And the only reason we feed them corn is because corn is really cheap and corn makes them really fat quickly. So you feed corn to cattle. And e-coli, which is a very common bug, evolves. And a certain mutation occurs. And a strain called E. Coli 0157:H7 appears on the world stage. And it’s the product of the diet we’re feeding cattle on feedlots, and it’s the product of feedlot life. The animals stand ankle deep in their manure all day long, so that if one cow has it the other cows will get it.

For years during the Bush administration, the Cheif of Staff at the USDA was the former chief lobbyist to the beef industry in Washington. The head of the FDA was the former executive vice president of the National Food Processors Association. These regulatory agencies are being controlled by the very companies that they’re supposed to be scrutinizing.

Many of the illegal immigrants coming to America were corn farmers in Mexico. NAFTA led to a flooding of the Mexican market with cheap American corn. It’s put more than 1.5 million Mexican farmers out of work. They couldn’t compete with this cheap corn coming from America. So what happened to those million and a half Mexican farmers? Meat packers like IBP, National Beef, and Monford began actively recruiting in Mexico. Companies advertised on the radio and the newspapers. IBP set up a bus service in Mexico to bring workers into the united States. For years the government turned a blind eye to the recruitment of immigrants to the meat packing industry, but now when there’s an anti-immigrant movement, they’re cracking down all of the sudden, but they’re not cracking down on these companies. No, the government is cracking down on the workers.

Immigration agents are arresting Smithfield workers at this trailer park. This is an agreement between Smithfield and immigration authorities. They can get rid of 15 workers a day, but you don’t see any massive raids. That way it doesn’t affect the production line.

The way the system appeared to work to me was Lady Justice has the scales, and you piled cash on the scales, and the one that piled the most cash on the scales and hired the most experts and ones most willing to tell the biggest lies, that was the winner. That seems to be how our justice system functions now. It’s terrible. How can a farmer defend himself against a multinational corporation like Monsanto?

These companies fight tooth and nail against labeling. The fast food industry fought against giving you the calorie information. They fought against telling you if there is trans fat in your food. The meat packing industry for years prevented country of origin labeling. They fought not to label genetically modified foods, and now 70% of processed food in the supermarket has some genetically modified ingredient. I think it’s one of the most important battles for consumers to fight is the right to know what’s in their food and how it was grown. Not only do they not want you to know what’s in it, they have managed to make it against the law to criticize their products.

In Colorado it’s a felony if you’re convicted under a veggie libel law, so you could go to prison for criticizing the ground beef that’s being produced in the State of Colorado. There is an effort in several farm states to make it illegal to publish a photo of any industrial food operation, any feedlot operation. At the same time they’ve also gotten bills passed that are called cheeseburger bills that make it very very difficult for you to sue them.

Aspartame (E951) is consumed daily by millions of people. The sweetener is being used in over 6000 products. Aspartame was approved by the FDA back in 1981. The approval was the most contested in history because aspartame caused cancer in lab animals.

The ingestion of the widely used sweetener called aspartame, better known as Nutra Sweet or Equal, may just be responsible for what the authors say is a dramatic increase in the number of people who develop brain tumors. Consumer advocates and researchers have become more vocal about what they say may be aspartame’s adverse effects. They asking the Food and Drud Administration, the FDA, to take another hard look at aspartame.

Better known by its brand names Nutra Sweet or Equal, aspartame is the most popular sugar substitute in the world. Since the FDA approved it back in 1981, aspartame has become a multi billion dollar industry. What most consumers don’t know is that aspartame’s approval was one of the most contested in FDA history. Consumers have reported more than 7000 adverse reactions to the FDA ranging from dizziness to headaches to seizures. But the makers say it is the most tested food additive ever, and that it’s safe for the tens of millions who use it worldwide.

Aspartame was discovered in the mid-60s at GD Searle, the Chicago drug company. So it was bought by Monsanto and then was spun off to form the Nutra Sweet Kelco Company. The FDA originally approved aspartame back in 1974, but FDA investigators soon found serious problems in some of the studies that Searle had submitted to the FDA and so a task force was able to investigate many of Searle’s tests.

Dr. Erik Millstone is a food safety expert at the University of Sussex in England. He’s been a critic of Britain’s approval of the sweetener for over a decade. He says that Searle’s tests are so flawed there’s simply no way to be sure that aspartame is safe.

Some scientists allege that the industry tries to influence research. Dr. Ralph Walton, a professor of psychiatry at Northeastern Ohio University’s College of Medicine, recently did a survey of aspartame studies. He found, that the results of industry sponsored research turned out very differently from the non industry sponsored studies.
I looked at the medical literature, addressing the safety of aspartame. I found 164 studies. 74 were funded by the Nutra Sweet industry. Every single one of them attested to the safety of aspartame. Of the 90 independently funded studies, 83 identified a problem.

What about the Investment Banks that are still stuck with these loans? What about the US Government who took out interests in Fannie, Freddie and others in the bailout, or as I like to call it, the “sellout” (as in, “of America”)

And NONE of this includes commercial properties/loans. Not one word from anyone, except one person and I can’t find his information.

How much exposure do the American People have in the Commercial market? No one knows.

Unemployment at 16-year high

In December, the number of unemployed persons increased by 632,000 to 11.1 million and the unemployment rate rose to 7.2 percent. Since the start of the recession in December 2007, the number of unemployed persons has grown by 3.6 million, and the unemployment rate has risen by 2.3 percentage points. Bureau of labor statistics.

Add to that, the Federal Reserve’s audacity to deny disclosure of nearly $2 Trillion dollars. As determined by the court, and I’m paraphrasing, that (bold) We the People are not party to what the Federal Reserve (a private corporation) does with its money.

Halliburton announced that it would relocated it’s Texas based World Headquarters from Texas to Dubai. It will still maintain a corporate US office in Texas, but the CEO is moving UAE. (ABC news 03/11/2007)

Halliburton is no longer an American company, but they will probably get the contract, along with KBR.

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener… an additive. And it’s a chemical..it’s not a natural product it’s a chemical. The molecule is made up of 3 components. 2 are amino acids, the so called building blocks… proteins. One is called phenylalanine, which is about 50% of the molecule, and the other is aspartic acid, which is like 40%. The other 10% is so called methyl ester which as soon as it’s swallowed becomes free methyl alcohol. Methanol. Wood alcohol, which is a poison, a real poison.

1967 Dr. Harold Waisman conducts Aspartame safety tests on infant monkeys on behalf of the G.D. Searle & Company. As seven monkeys were being fed Aspartame mixed with milk, one dies, five others have grand mal seizures.
1980 FDA Board of Inquiry comprised of three independent scientists, confirmed that aspartame “might induce brain tumors”.
1981 G.D. Searle’s Company Chief Operating Officer, Donald Rumsfeld, reapplied an FDA certification for aspartame immediately after U.S. President Ronald Reagan took office.
1981 President Ronald Reagan apoints Arthur H. Hayes as FSA commissioner, who approves aspartame for use in dry goods. Ronald Reagan, Donald Rumsfeld, Arthur Hayes were working for the same people.

The FDA, G.D. Searle & Company, Monsanto, Nutrasweet Company, and Merisant are in control by the same people.

…we’re going to talk about what happened in the year 1930 in April. This is from documented archives, easily verifiable data. In the month of April of 1930, a company called Eli Lilly made a substance called thimerosal, also known as mercury. This thimerosal is used in different vaccines since the 1930s, is what’s called an adjuvant. An adjuvant is something that by definition increases the effectiveness per say of the virus or the bacteria that’s in the vaccination.

Now I need to give you a little bit of background as to who Ely Lilly, the founders of Eli Lilly, or the people that sat at the board of directors at that time. We go back and look at the directors of Eli Lilly we find a man named Prescott Bush, who is the father of George Herbert Walker Bush, who is the father of our current president George W. Bush. We find also that Prescott Bush had a number of very interesting people sitting on the board at that time. The father of Herbert Walker Bush’s Vice President, Dan Quayle, the Quayle family also sat on the board of directors at the time of Eli Lilly. Eli Lilly in 1930 published a series of experiments on this thimerosal product. And as I pulled and saw the results of this thimerosal study I was incredibly stunned. They inject the thimerosal into 22 people with spinal meningitis, all of which die immediately. However Eli Lilly publishes the study, and somehow claims that thimerosal, which is 50% toxic mercury by weight, is completely safe. Now that’s the first stage to be set.I’m linking here George W. Bush’s father George Herbert Walker Bush, his father Prescott Bush, to the very first studies of thimerosal and vaccinations back in 1930.

In 1972 I found the World Health Organization, also known as WHO, bulletin #47. This refers to the creation of an immune virus, and suggests that a useful way to study the effect would be quote “to put this virus into a vaccination program nationwide and observe the results”. Many people, many biochemists I have spoken with, have theorized that the World Health Organization used the smallpox vaccination program in Central Africa first of all for this study, and from there that’s what led into the spread of HIV, the infection. It coincides precisely with that most intense and recent smallpox vaccination campaign. So I’m here to tell you folks that in 1972, that smallpox experimentation was what led to the HIV/AIDS outbreak that is currently devastating Africa and which is currently a problem here i America as well. The virus requested, again this is the 1972 bulletin #47, says the virus requested would selectively destroy the human T-cell system. And let me say that’s exactly what the Human immuno-suppresent virus HIV actually does.

And we also need to talk about briefly what happened in December, 1976 to set the stage for what we call the bird flu hoax. We need to also look back at something called the swine flu hoax that happened in December of 1976. At Fort Dix New Jersey, a U.S. soldier died, one soldier died, the Centers for Disease Control at that time reported to the nation, to the world on the controlled media, that the American people were in danger of facing a swine flu pandemic that could kill millions of Americans. So what happened, the exact thing I wanted to outline that’s happening today happened back in 1976. The United States Centers for Disease Control mobilized, began purchasing massive mega doses of swine flu vaccination to inoculate all Americans if possible. Many many millions of dollars was spent by our government and enriched the pharmaceutical cartels for this swine flu vaccination.

A rider tacked on to the end of the Homeland Security bill amazingly confers immunity from liability prosecutions to Eli Lilly, Sanofi Pasteur and all other manufacturers of vaccines… maybe we can set he stage here. There are many other instances where the World Health Organization, which again is largely funded by Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, and the Rothschild Group in London, to absolutely control populations for specific political purposes worldwide. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever. I can go on for the next half an hour to show specific programs designed to kill large amounts of people, and it does this in every single case, by means of vaccination introduction. We can see a pattern, a modus operandi, in this. Introduce a vaccine to unsuspecting population centers, cause massive sickness, massive death, massive panic, massive chaos, and then they step in and have the agenda completed. It’s the same old problem-reaction scenario. They create the problem, they dictate the response and then they have the prescribed action already made.

Let me just submit this. Fear, panic, and terror are largely caused by ignorance. Folks once a topic is completely understood, I submit there is much less anxiety, much less fear. And let me emphasize that the root word of pandemic is the word panic. Panic and pandemic are synonymous.

For the first time American men are drafted, forced basically into military service, and then deployed for training in bases in Spain. This is very important to understand. For the very first time in U.S. history, all new recruits, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, all new recruits are given mandatory vaccinations. one of which is a very broad influenza vaccination. Now, these service men did not have a choice. Either they got the vaccination or they went to the brig for 5 or 10 years of incarceration. The tragedy is to me the manufacturer of this forced vaccine is a man named John D Rockefeller who made literally millions of dollars in vaccine sales to the U.S. government.

And you said at the time, and it later came out that someone was defecating on the spinach in hundreds of sites in Mexico and the U.S. and there was other clear salmonella contamination in other foods where there should be no contamination, it’s unnatural just like foot and mouth in England, we said it was the government, BBC admitted it was the government that released it, they claim it was an accident at hundreds of sites overnight over a two day period. So, bottom line they were staging this to try to bring in total control over farms and ranches, and now we have major cities like, areas in Oklahoma, Tulsa, others coming out and saying they want to restrict people having gardens…

Now, Monsanto, the large producers like Tyson are all behind this bill which requires small producers and your regular farmers, virtually to report every morsel that they’ve got. They’re going to track every single carrot from the farm to the store and if something happens in the process that that carrot can somehow be construed to be of the cause of any kind of illness, they will track right back through and put the processor out of business and confiscate the farmers land.

Now you and I have talked over and over again, Alex, about the fact that food is always the control mechanism. Right now we have as we’ve mentioned before, vast percentages of our population that literally can’t afford food and that inflation is going to continue, it is continuing at a huge rate at the same time now get this, at the same time commodities prices they have over glutted with commodities buying and other countries coming in and trying to buy our foods and as a result, commodities buyers are getting out of the business because the cost of food or the price of food is dropping at the commodities level.

These oligarchies, the multinationals, are owned by very few people and groups. They have the kind of power today that no emperor, king or pope ever had in history. Monsanto is one of those global corporations. Very efficient, by the way, and incredibly dynamic and vital. They’re just the latest type of feudal lord.

It’s a very broad patent. It would grant, if it’s accepted worldwide, would grant Monsanto control of a significant percentage of all the pigs in the world. And here’s what’s so critical. The patent isn’t just for the pigs. It’s for the pigs offspring. So mother nature works for Monsanto’s profit. Every time pigs naturally reproduce, that is a violation of the patent that you have to pay Monsanto for.

I think there’s only one reason. It’s to make the farmers dependent on this company. It’s like what has already happened with grain or corn. People have to buy seeds exclusively from Monsanto as well as sprays, fertilizers and so on, and end up totally dependent on the company. If every time a sow or piglet leaves the pen Monsanto can charge a fee. It’s a never-ending source of income.

In some American states, farmers who feed their pigs exclusively with genetically modified corn, or soy, have noticed a mysterious drop in their stocks fertility.

When you insert a gene the DNA can rearrange, can delete genes, turn them on permanently, turn them off. It can create mutations up and down the genome. And these can create unpredicted allergies, or toxins, or new diseases, or nutritional problems.

Enjoying an inside route to the corridors of power, Monsanto was able again and again to place employees in influential positions. Through Washington’s revolving door, corporate players continually traded posts at the licensing authorities, later returning to high paid board positions at the company. In the early 1990s, a blatant scandal played out behind the scenes at the nation’s capitol. It was about nothing less than the fundamental decision on whether genetically modified organisms should be allowed to enter the food supply at all. Several FDA inspectors expressed great concern after studying the test results. The government held back the papers in which they explained their reservations, however, as described by a critical FDA expert.

We all have PCBs in our bodies. The polar bears and the penguins have PCBs… And, what has happened is in the past there were a few sites where PCBs were released, but over time they’ve gone into the air, they’ve gone into the water; they’ve transported so the whole world is now contaminated with PCBs. The issue is that many diseases are caused by PCB exposure. The one everyone knows about is cancer.

The big surprise was that Roundup has an effect on cell division. We saw very quickly that roundup affected a key process in cell division. Not the cell division mechanisms themselves, but those which control cell division. You have to understand how cells become cancerous. In the beginning all cells are benign. And then at a certain point modifications take place in the cells that make them unstable from a genetic point of view. This is the first malfunction we observed with Roundup. It is for that reason that we consider that Roundup provokes the first stages that lead to cancer. We’re careful not to say it provokes cancer, because we won’t see that cancers develop for 30 or 40 years.
It was immediately clear how important these findings were for product users especially since the tested doses were well below those which people normally use, and we said to ourselves ‘gosh we really have to let the public know about the dangers as quickly as we can. And I thought the best way to do that was to talk to my administration, but there I was shocked… very shocked, because I was told, ordered rather, not to communicate our findings due to the GMO question lurking in the background.

It seems Monsanto’s new wonder has what it takes to entice farmers, but how does it work? How can the soybean plant survive being sprayed with Roundup?

This is a soybean cell. The core of the cell contains its DNA in which the beans genetic structure is encoded. In order to create its GMOs, Monsanto breaks the species barrier using a Roundup resistant gene harvested from a bacterium. This gene is placed on microscopic particles of gold, which are fired into the soybean cells with a gene gun. The gene penetrates the DNA and creates a protein making the plant resistant to Roundup. When the herbicide is sprayed on the crop it kills all the weeds leaving the soybean plants intact. One must admit that the process is an incredible technological feat, but these soybeans engineered to withstand such a powerful herbicide are destined for our dinner plates.

Exceptional news footage actually shows George Bush Sr. visiting Monsanto’s research facility nine years before Roundup ready soybeans first sold. When George Bush Sr. toured the company’s headquarters, he was Ronald Reagan’s Vice President, and deregulation was this public administration’s watch word. The intention was to boost industry by eliminating what White House hardliners called bureaucratic hurdles, like health and environmental safety testing, which were Monsanto’s key problems. In 1988 when George Bush Sr. was elected President of the United States, Dan Quayle became the new Vice President. Four years later, he announced the American policy concerning GMOs, drafted just as Monsanto had wanted.

The United States is already the world leader in biotechnology, and we want to keep it that way. In 1991 alone it was a $4 billion industry. It should reach at least $50 billion by the year 2000. As long as we resist the spread of unnecessary regulation.” -Dan Quayle

He (Michael Taylor) moved over to the FDA of July, 1991. Up until that time he was at a law firm called King & Spalding. His personal clients included, not only Monsanto, but the International Food and Biotechnology Council. And he had drafted for them a proposal for how they would like to see genetically engineered foods regulated. And if you look at the proposal that was written for IFBC that was Michael Taylor’s with the final one that was published, it looks very similar.

It’s a transgenic hormone that’s injected into cows increasing dairy production by 20%. It would be an understatement to say that it had critics. Called rBGH for recombinant bovine growth hormone, Monsanto began selling it to dairy farmers in 1994 under the brand name Polilac. In 1985, Monsanto submitted Posilac to the FDA for market approval. The experts at the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine reviewed the studies that the company had carried out on experimental herds. At the FDA, the veterinarian in charge of reviewing the data was Richard Burroughs. In an interview he stated that agency officials had suppressed and manipulated data.

After ten years on the market, Roundup ready soybeans account for 90% of all the soybeans grown in the U.S. In fact 70% of the food in American stores contains bioengineered elements. Unlike Europe, consumers cannot make an informed decision because GM labeling is forbidden. A direct consequence of the principle of substantial equivalence.

To preserve its corn’s diversity, Mexico has banned genetically modified crops. However due to the NAFTA free trade agreement it signed with the United States and Canada, Mexico cannot stop the massive importation of American corn, 40% of which is genetically modified. This industrial corn, as it’s called in Mexico, is highly subsidized by the U.S. government. So on local markets it costs have as much as traditional Mexican corn.
