If you ask a politician assigned to security matters today what he or she thinks about the surveillance techniques used to prevent crime, there’s a good chance that you’d be told about the benefits of closed circuit camera systems. You’d here convincing arguments about the additional safety in their vicinity because they act as a crime deterrent, Or you might here about the virtue of being able to track terrorists, by filing information about airline passengers, or by enforcing the use of biometric passports. Maybe you’d find out how trusted computing protects you from malicious software and viruses. Or how scanning emails and eavesdropping on phone calls helps the police find potential criminals of all kinds. It would probably all sound great, because the idea is that you should start thinking of these techniques as being the cream of the crop. But let’s face the not quite so obvious but nevertheless omnipresent downside of this. While public cameras may actually help these defined criminals, modern CCTV systems like the ones used in London, are even today able to lock onto any person the operators wish to track using automatic facial identification, thus enabling the police to create a detailed database of say all of your movements. The keeping of records about airline passengers flying to the U.S. and in addition the obligation for everyone to submit biometric passports, are supposed to help fight terrorism. But this also allows the secret services to gather explicit information about the nationality of every traveler. Explicit information such as your fingerprints, the color of your eyes, and a high resolution picture of your face. Information you would usually expect to be taken from suspected criminals.

Trusted computing promises to enhance security on your PC, by only allowing certain trustworthy software to run on your machine. What you’re not told is that the person who decides which software you can trust, and are therefore allowed to install on your PC, will certainly not be you. On the one hand, scanning emails and wiretapping emails for ominous keywords, could convict a few small time criminals, but on the other it allows all sorts of people involved in this monitoring process to retrieve all sorts of private information. Information you just might not want to share with the staff of your local police station.

These symptoms can all be taken as evidence of the slow but steady conversion of our western societies into police states. Our western societies, claiming to be liberal democracies, but our leaders try to enforce more and more pressive laws and instrumentalize public fear of terror to justify them.

Stop the big brother state.

The United States is no longer the land of the free. Americans live in a system with literally millions of unnecessary government regulations that have destroyed the free market and sent millions of well paying jobs over seas. Americans today are constantly watching their speedometers and trying to conform to every little rule, yet their are so many rules that it’s impossible for even the most honest and hard working Americans not to be breaking some type of law on a daily basis.

NIA has just learned that if you buy a new Toyota at a dealership in San Diego, the sales transaction is now video taped in order to satisfy a requirement of Homeland Security which they claim is to prevent the laundering of drug or terrorist money.

If you are driving on a New York state highway and pay your toll with a denomination of over $20 the New York State Thruway Authority collector must collect your license plate number and report you to the Department of Homeland Security.

The U.S today is experiencing a merger of state and corporate power. The average small business owner in America is being squeezed by government forcing Americans to rely on a select few corporations who have all the wealth and power.

Politicians don’t have anything to give. They can only take. They can only take and give to others. It’s like a politician saying they can create jobs. They don’t create jobs they just take money from one group of people and pay another group of people. Politicians cannot create jobs. American innovators, business creators, entrepreneurs with the lack of red tape not more red tape. Deregulation not more regulations. That’s what will create jobs in this country.

Has this armed raid uncovered a weapons stockpile? Foiled a terrorist plot? No. What government agents were after, was this, Raw Milk, a danger to society–or so the Food & Drug Administration tells us. The FDA warns raw milk can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and worse. But not everyone is so worried about these risks. This is Rawsome Foods. A private membership club in Venice California. Before entering, members sign waivers stating that they actually want food that has not been heated or pasteurized. In fact, that’s the whole point explains the club’s manager.

In the past three years there have been at least 8 government raids across the U.S. involving dairy according to the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund. In this security camera footage, we see agents entering Rawsome’s kitchen, guns drawn. The raid on Rawsome involved no less than 5 government agencies. The FDA, the Los Angeles Health Department, the Los Angeles Sherrif’s Department, the Los Angeles District Attrorney’s Office, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture. All five of these agencies declined interviews for this story, saying the investigation is ongoing. The agents proceeded to collect what they called “samples” for the case.

Manhandled Patriot: “Can I get your badge number?”

Manhandled Patriot: “No? You’re a public servant sir.”

Manhandled Patriot: “You serve those criminals.”
Another American citizen whose quickly realized the irrationality of the public servant: “You serve the American people–to uphold the constitution. And our 1st Amendment free speech rights.”
And yet another wise amazing patriot who clearly has far more knowledge of the global control situation than the very public servant sworn to protect him: “They don’t protect people’s rights, they protect their DICTATOR. They protect the BANKSTERS.

Meet Michael Chertoff, head of the Department of Homeland Security from 2005 to 2009. Today he’s the co-founder of the Chertoff Group. A security and risk management firm whose clients include Rapidscan, one of the biggest manufacturers of body imaging screening machines.

He’s abusing his relationship with the public by pretending to be a public servant and talking about how these back-scatter scanners are going to make us safer? He stands to benefit because he’s getting payed by the manufacturing companies to go all over the networks saying that these scanners are THE solution to security.

JESSE FREESTON, PRODUCER, TRNN: Welcome to Real News Network. I’m Jesse Freeston, reporting from the G-20 Summit in Toronto. On Saturday afternoon outside the Toronto G-20 meetings, a group of people dressed in black using a tactic known as the black bloc smashed windows of corporate franchises and banks and burned police vehicles. After weeks of suggesting that the reason for a $1 billion police presence was precisely to stop such groups, when the time came the police were nowhere to be seen. So far there have been no reports of people being hurt by the black bloc. The same cannot be said about the Toronto Police. During a press conference with Toronto Chief of Police William Blair following the black bloc events, Real News senior editor Paul Jay asked about a different confrontation.

PAUL JAY, SENIOR EDITOR, TRNN: On television this morning, before the black bloc tactic was used, the images on CNN and a lot of local television were of what happened yesterday, and there were images of police officers hitting and kicking demonstrators. And I have to say one of our own journalists was punched in the face, and we have video footage of that. My question is: are you aware of the incident, and are you going to investigate it, and will there be some public explanation about why there was that type of confrontation and violence?

BILL BLAIR, TORONTO CHIEF OF POLICE: Unfortunately, Paul, I’m very aware of the incident, and we were videotaping it as well. We videotaped all aspects of that. One of the things the media missed yesterday was a large cadre of black bloc dressed people in the center of that crowd. As it approached along College Street they began to throw things at my officers. It was necessary for my people to put their helmets on, and it was also necessary for us to go into that crowd and arrest some of the people that were attacking them. That—all of that was videoed. Now, if your reporter wishes to make a complaint of any kind against the police, there’s a proper format to do that, and I urge you either to contact us in writing and have them do that, or he can call the Office of the Independent Police Review. And I’m not going to comment on [inaudible]

JAY: No, I’m not—I know you—I’m not asking you to, ’cause I know you can’t. But we will also make our footage available to you, ’cause in our footage there’s no view of any kind of black bloc tactic in that incident. But we’ll be happy to share it with you.

BLAIR: I have photographs of that, and, actually, they were taken right from the balcony outside my office. I’ll be more than happy to share that with you and all of the media.

JAY: We can compare tape.

FREESTON: Here’s what happened from my perspective. A few thousand people left Allan Gardens Park for a peaceful march entitled Justice for Our Communities. At some point, order came for the police to put on their riot gear. Minutes later a marcher named Emomotimi Azorbo was detained by police and taken into a nearby Winners clothing store. Police then surrounded the entrance. It was later discovered that Azorbo was arrested for ignoring police orders. Azorbo is deaf. His friends and supporters have gathered around, demanding his immediate release and trying to explain his deafness to police.

FREESTON: Contrary to the police chief’s statement, there was no black bloc in the vicinity. Then police began to violently clear all people and the media out of the area. I was filming the assaults and clearly wearing my press credentials. I was forcefully removed. As I was being thrown out, the man beside me was punched clear off his feet by an officer. A group of officers then threw me on their bikes and I was punched in the face twice. Immediately afterward, I asked the officer why he punched me.

FREESTON: Is that your orders, to punish journalists in the face? Is that your orders today?

TORONTO POLICE OFFICER: Hold the line.

FREESTON: When I tried to ask the supervisor for more details,—

SUPERVISOR, TORONTO POLICE (SUBTITLED): Okay, just give him another shot.

FREESTON: —another officer appeared and snatched my microphone,—

FREESTON: What are you doing? That’s my mic!

OFFICER: Get out!

FREESTON: Give me my mic! I want my mic back!

WITNESS: How can you attack the media?

FREESTON: —then kicked it further behind the police line. I was told to leave immediately, while officers jabbed me with their bike handle. Other journalists gathered to demand my mic be returned, and after a few minutes it was thrown back to me.

FREESTON: Thank you. Alright. Does it still work?

FREESTON: More police were then called in to fortify the building. Azorbo was eventually transferred to a jail, and his friends say that he was held in custody for an additional day without independent translation before being released. More than 400 people have been arrested this week, currently being held at an old film studio on Eastern Avenue, including numerous mass arrests of peaceful demonstrations and targeting of community organizers. On Saturday night, police arrested and beat up Guardian correspondent Jesse Rosenfeld. Numerous other journalists have shared his fate. I include my own story here not to draw attention to the fact that I was punched, but to the fact that when police attack journalists, they’re attacking a basic democratic right, the public’s right to know what’s going on.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency coordinates the government’s role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man made, including acts of terror. Its beginnings can be traced to disaster legislation passed in 1803 to provide assistance to a New Hampshire town following a fire. Following a string of natural disasters in the 60s and 70s, President Jimmy Carter signed executive order 12127 and merged near ten federal agencies into what we now know as FEMA. In March 2003, FEMA joined 22 other federal agencies to become part of Homeland Security. In 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and most notably the city of New Orleans. Federal and local authorities encouraged those who could not evacuate the city to go to the Superdome to ride out the storm where there would be assistance to take care of them. This is how your government cares for you. This is a FEMA camp.

Up on screen are photocopies of the Miami Herald. And this goes back to the 1980s when they had congressional hearings dealing with shadow government and martial law. There’s the headline. The secret government and it talks about secret summits and the plans to take over the government. And it shows the people that were in charge of the continuity of government – Dick Cheney and others. And then we have a congressional hearing where we have Congressman Jack Brooks and others during Iran Contra, bringing up the secret plans and they’re told by Congressman Inouye that that can’t be discussed it’s a national security issue.
The truth of the matter is yes you do have those standby provisions, and the plans are there. And the statutory emergency plans are there whereby you could, in the name of stopping terrorism, apprehend – invoke the military – and arrest Americans and hold them in detention camps. -Rep Henry Gonzales

In 1986, under Rex 84, they opened 12 secret army camps to test if they could keep them secret while they held federal, now they hold state prisoners as well. Federal prisoners would then be given a few years off their sentence if they agreed to not tell family about it, and to go to the labor camps. It is a labor camp. And under the revised military rules it allows any U.S. citizen to be put in it under forced labor. Here is the civilian labor camp program Army regulation 210-35. It’s exactly 30 pages long.

This sucker was set up in 1986 at 12 camps. It’s since doubled to 24. And from ’86 to 97 secretly at labor camps, U.S. citizens, non military prisoners were worked on FEMA camps. Now, this was beta testing. They would tell them, ‘You’ll be given leniency and only serve half your sentence if you agree to labor. The minute you don’t you’ll be sent back, on the military bases but you can’t tell anybody. national Security’. You see they were testing ‘Can we keep camps secret from the local police or get them to work with us? Can we keep the camps secret from the media?’ So for 11 years they kept this sucker secret. Reagan, Bush, Clinton. And then Clinton declassifies it in ’97 and they double the number.

Here is Wall Street journal, KBR awarded Homeland Security contract worth up to $385 million, to build 3 1Million person FEMA camps in the United States. It says the ICE Detention and Removal Operations program can be used for illegal aliens and for U.S. citizens and for other emergencies.

We have this case of Aafia Siddiqui who is an American citizen, who was kidnapped and held in the Bagram military base in Afghanistan for five years – secretly, tortured, denied all of her constitutional rights. The whole thing was totally outside all known American law. And now we’ve had Dennis Blair, the head of national intelligence announce that the United States Government has a list of Americans that it will assassinate abroad. So the government has announced it’s going to kill its own citizens, without arrest, without trial, without conviction of a capital crime. They’re just going to shoot them down somewhere. Well these two things together are the definition of a police state.

We have a number of constitutional scholars in our most distinguished law schools who have said that these proposals are not only totally illegal under American law but constitute war crimes under Geneva Conventions. How else would you define a police state?

There’s no difference so far between his administration and Bush/Cheney regime. And so what we see is that there has been a coup, a power grab. The law means nothing to the government. It operates totally outside the law with contempt for the law.

And what’s most amazing is that, and this is not my opinion. He went to the United States Congress and told one of the most important committees, the Committee on intelligence, that the United States government now has a list of Americans that it will now murder. How does this differ from Joseph Stalin?
