Operation Hollywood – The Military Involvement With Movie Making

In the late 1920′s, the American war department created an office to act as a bridge between the motion picture industry, and the armed forces.

From the earliest days of motion pictures, the American Armed Forces understood the importance of encouraging the production of films about war and combat. When helping to make Wings (1927), the 1st major cooperation between Hollywood and the Pentagon, the military went well beyond its role of technical adviser and became directly involved in the logistics of production.
