Orwell Rolls In His Grave: Class Warfare and Government Control

In the last days of the Soviet Union you had dozens of newspapers, dozens of magazines, all kinds of radio and television stations…the only problem is that all of that media was controlled by the communist party of the Soviet Union or the government of the Soviet Union. We are moving in that direction.

If the media had been on the job during the 2000 election, for example, if they had reported what was actually going on and reported it with all due emphasis and repetitiousness kept on the story day after day…I don’t mean the occasional piece on page ten of the new York Times I mean appropriate coverage where you follow the scandal if that had happened Bush/Cheney wouldn’t be in the White House today because they weren’t elected.

The 3rd leading source of revenue for the media, broadcast media, happens to be political ads. So if you’re a politician the only way you get heard is with ads. In 1981 the media was getting 80 million dollars from political campaigns for ads. Today…in the last campaign they got a billion dollars. That’s why you’ve gotta’ have millions of dollars to run for office as a politician.
